in your colorless eyes
the sea lies smooth
i have been wading north
avoiding waves

i have a shining body
(stolen)
i have a burning body
all hot and red inside

if there were windows in my side i suppose i would be
less likely to forget

as it is i am a cold dark seed
a tired chimney belching smoke
a clerk in a snowing bookstore
until i scrape my legs on rocks

and see
now i am bleeding
in your shark-infested waters

shed for you

in the mouth of an alaskan river
the unfinished bridge
the transcendance of matter
take that sharks and fishes

i leave you my hunger

a kind of window
unshatterable by supersonic! rockets
mountains, whole forests stacked like leaves
the twelve great oceans
    water (deepest)
    ice
    space
    time (coldest)
    memory (unrestful)
    terror
    roads
    silence
    darkness (kindest)
    hell (and symmetry)
    dreams
    the smallest, self
and the factories of desire

only a certain noise
no one has heard yet
like that rose in the garden
of the emperor

tonight i will warm bacteria
i will let them in
they will see tall cities
great trees called mountains
sculptures and parks and public monuments
beings like themselves yet strange completely
and in the circular, burning river
i will eat them

take that bacteria
you dont get me yet.
