I would like to put in a plug for Avi Israel-Davis’ blog. Even babies have blogs these days. Anthony and Elizabeth are two of my best friends from college, and I am very happy that they are making babies. Anthony wrote a lovely essay in June about fatherhood, and how it makes everything that much more important. I am reminded of Martin Luther’s writings on the earthly estates of man: the family, the state, and the church. Note that work is not one of them. Work only really becomes important when it’s how you provide for your family. That is not a very modern sentiment, and not really a “Protestant” one either, at least not according to the evangelical Protestantism that’s practiced in America. But to be honest it seems to me like people with families have a much saner outlook on life and their place in it.

I am very jealous of people with babies. Apparently men have a biological clock too.
